A handheld optical power meter is an instrument used to measure optical power or the relative loss of optical power through a section of optical fiber, which plays a crucial role in the maintenance, testing and optimization of optical fiber systems.

The handheld optical power meter (optical power meter) is a commonly used test tool in optical fiber communication systems. It can measure the output power of optical end devices, evaluate the performance of optical end devices, and by combining with stable light sources, measure connection losses, check continuity, and evaluate the transmission quality of optical fiber links.

Working principle
The operating principle of the handheld optical power meter is based on the photoelectric effect or the thermal effect. When the optical signal enters the detector of the optical power meter, the detector converts the optical signal into an electrical signal, which is amplified and processed through the internal circuit, and finally displays the measurement result in digital form on the display screen. Part of the handheld laser power meter is through the laser beam and the measuring device contact, a part of the laser energy is absorbed and converted into heat energy, and then use the temperature change measured by the sensor to calculate the laser power value.
